wasn't this an episode of x-files?

The Takitaro is a this unknown species of monster fish that lives in Yamagata, Japan. Lake Otoriike to be exact. Located nearly 1,000 meters above sea level, the remote mountain lake was created ages ago when an earthquake triggered a massive landslide that dammed up a mountain stream. People claim that this prehistoric monster fish can grow to sizes of 10 feet or more.

In 1982 japanese newspapers reported that a group of mountain climbers above the lake observed a fish that was 6-7 feet long. Apparently, this made international headlines, I wouldn't know. Three years later (1985) a team of scientists equipped with sonar went to the lake to search for the Takitaro. How they got such super sweet jobs I wish I knew. It turns out the sonar revealed the presence of gigantic fish in the lake, and scientists identified some smaller fish they found as relatives of an ancient species of salmon that was most likely trapped when the lake was formed years ago. Next time I get sushi I want a philadelphia roll with ANCIENT salmon motherfucker!

The true identity of the monster fish is still unknown but it is most likely a gigantic prehistoric salmon. Some one take me fishing there!

More giant fish....
